GiD Theme

• Theme: Select the GUI appearance between the classic grey, with native widgets in MS Windows or clam style in Linux, or the new dark skin. This change requires GiD to be restarted. (See more information at: Classic GiD theme). More themes available in ProblemTypes-->Internet Retrieve.
• Theme size: Select the size of icons used.
• Icon and image scale factor: for high resolutions displays, set the zoom factor for images and icons.
• Text font scale factor: for high resolution displays, set the zoom factor for text in windows.
• Menu type (only on macOS): where to place the menu bar , top of the screen like other apple's macOS applications or embedded in the graphical window, as in Linux or MS Windows.

General appearance

• Smoothed Elements: If this option is set, when rendering a mesh in Preprocess mode (see Render) the intersection between elements with a small angle between their normals will be illuminated as if it were a continuous solid. If it is not set, illumination is made considering every element as planar. The angle (in degrees) is the maximum angle between the normals of two elements to allow smooth lighting between them. If the angle is greater than this, one edge is drawn between them. The equivalent in Postprocess mode can be found under the top menu bar Options->Geometry->Border angle.
• Surface drawing type: Lets you choose how to draw the surfaces when in wire frame (normal) mode. Options are:

- None: Surfaces are not drawn.
- Boundary lines: One magenta line is drawn for every contour line. This set of lines has a small offset towards the interior of the surface.
- Iso-parametric lines: Two yellow lines are drawn for every NURBS surface, one for u=0.5 and one for v=0.5.
- Both: Draws both Boundary lines and Iso-parametric lines.

• Draw quadratic elements: With this option you can specify how to visualize quadratic elements. Options are:

- No: If this option is set, quadratic elements are drawn as if they were linear, i.e. nodes at the center of the edges or the element are discarded in the drawing process.
- As lines: If this option is set, elements are drawn taking into account all quadratic nodes, but edges are drawn using straight lines between nodes, for instance a quadratic triangle will be drawn as four triangles, and a quadratic quadrilateral will be drawn as four quadrilaterals.
- As curves: If this option is set, elements are drawn taking into account all quadratic nodes, and edges are represented using quadratic curves. This option is more realistic, but it may make some visualization aspects slower when dealing with large models. Only the edges are drawn with curved lines, faces are still drawn using straight lines, i.e. a quadratic triangle will be drawn as four triangles, and a quadratic quadrilateral will be drawn as four quadrilaterals.

• Entity labels show: to show identifier number, the layer name of the entity or both of them.
• Automatic rotation center: If this option is active, each time 'Zoom In' / 'Zoom Out' / 'Pan' is used, the point of the geometry or mesh nearest to the center of the screen will be taken as the center of rotation for subsequent rotations. This is also available by right-clicking the mouse, under Rotation -> Center. If a new Rotation center is selected (see Center), then this option is deactivated.

Render precision

• Render precision: This option determines the precision with which lines and surfaces are drawn in render mode. To render the NURBS surfaces and lines, an internal mesh is generated according to the precision set with this option. The internal definition of geometric entities does not change. Values: 1.0 to 0.0 from best to worst.

Results format

• This options refer to the format used to print labels somewhere

Legend options

• Opaque legends: If set, draws legends with an opaque background.
• Draw border: If set, draws legends with a surrounding frame.
