What is a Windows service

A service is a console application that runs in the background and performs tasks that doesn't require user interaction.

The installed service can be configured through the Services applet, available from the Control Panel or  Administrative Tools in Windows.

The service can be configured to start automatically when the operating system starts, so you don't have to start each of them manually after a system reboot.
